Daniel Mosquera

Daniel Mosquera is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Latin American studies in the Dept. of Modern Languages and Literatures at Union College, Schenectady, New York. He does research, teaches, and has published work on colonial Latin American literature and history, popular religion, Latin American film, and Subaltern studies. He has received research grants from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, NEH, and the Mellon Foundation.

His work on popular religion, both written and filmic, explores the convergence of popular Christianities, politics, and ethnic identity and cultures. In addition to beginning work on a new documentary film exploring Mexican Passional cultures, he is writing a social history of the afro-descendent feast of San Pacho in Quibdo, Choco (Colombia), the topic of Sanpachando.
