Elizabeth Thompson
Elizabeth Thompson’s documentary film credits include work as a producer, director and director of photography on a number of award-winning films. Most recently, her Sundance- and ITVS-funded feature documentary Blink won an Emmy Award and was selected for broadcast by the PBS series P.O.V.
In 1994, For Better or For Worse, a feature documentary Thompson co-produced, received funding from ITVS, aired on P.O.V., and was nominated for an Academy Award. Her film Bookends was awarded the Juror’s Choice Award from the Black Maria Film Festival and Outstanding Merit from the International Documentary Association.
As a camerawoman, she has worked on a number of feature documentaries, including Younger Thinner Smoother (Oxygen Channel), Rachel’s Daughters (HBO), and Regret to Inform, which screened at Sundance, was broadcast on P.O.V., and was nominated for Academy and Emmy Awards.
Thompson’s current producing/directing efforts include A Bird Flies Like Birds, a documentary about domestic violence for which she was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts; and BRATS, a documentary series about young adults who grew up off the grid of mainstream American culture (e.g., Zen Brats, Dead Head Brats, Weather Underground Brats, Black Panther Brats, Circus Brats).
Both Yaddo and MacDowell Colonies have awarded Thompson Artist Residencies. In addition, she has twice been a Visiting Professor at Stanford University. Most recently, she was elected to the national Board of Directors of The Association of Independent Video and Film.
Thompson holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.A. from Stanford University.
