Erin Moore

Erin P. Moore received both her Ph.D. in anthropology and her J.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a visiting assistant professor at the University of Southern California, where she teaches classes in anthropology and gender studies.

She is the author of Gender, Law, and Resistance in India (Arizona U. Press, 1998), which examines gender and conflict in a village in Rajasthan, India. It is the companion book to her film, "Keep Her Under Control: Law's Patriarchy in India." Dr. Moore has conducted research in the same village in Rajasthan since the late 1970s.

She has published articles in American Ethnologist, Ethos, Journal of American Folklore, Human Organization, and in edited volumes concerning law and politics, gender ideology, cross-cultural conceptions of justice, and legal pluralism.

Before coming to anthropology, Dr. Moore practiced law among migrant farmworkers in central Washington State. She is married and the mother of three children.
