Paul Gelles

Paul H. Gelles is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of California at Riverside. Formerly a postdoctoral fellow in the College of Natural Resources at the University of California at Berkeley, he has carried out research on various aspects of Andean society in the central and southern Peruvian highlands.

Prof. Gelles is the author of numerous articles on the history and cultural politics of Andean irrigation, and of the book Water and Power in Highland Peru: The Cultural Politics of Irrigation and Development (Rutgers University Press, 2000). He is also the co-translator of Andean Lives: Gregorio Condori Mamani and Asunta Quispe Huamán (University of Texas Press, 1996).
